An Introduction to Wine and Pasta

I’ve only been here a few days and I’ve already been so busy! Yesterday I spent the day as a wine pourer for Frederick Wildman & Sons’ annual portfolio tasting. I’ve never seen so much wine…have you? (Below is just a fraction of what was being sampled!)

I acted as a representative for Bergström Winery, showcasing their Pinot Noirs, which were all absolutely delicious. Whereas the Cumberland Reserve was a blend, the Gregory Ranch, De Lancellotti, Le Pré du Col and Bergström each represented the names of the individual vineyards and a corresponding Pinot Noir. Each was a vintage 2011. The afternoon’s favorite was hands down the De Lancellotti as it was more full bodied and juicier than the others – with red, ripe fruits highly present in the taste.

Perhaps one of the most exciting moments of the evening was at the company’s after party, where I had the privilege of sampling a glass of Bond Estates’ St. Eden wine, which sells for anywhere between $300 and $500 a bottle, and goes for even more if sold in a restaurant. Though I don’t think I will ever be likely to pay that much for a bottle of wine, it did taste like smooth, purple gold. In a good way.

The event inspired me to cook a PDC pasta dish that pairs well with a Pinot Noir, so stay tuned for what I whip up in the next couple of days. Maybe a nice carbonara will do the trick? A dopo!

Baci,

Linguina
