The Thursday night I spent in Paris will forever be imprinted in my mind as featuring one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever had – and by far the most delicious one I sampled in Paris the week I was there.
Verjus was opened two years ago and has quickly become a favorite not only among American foodies but locals as well. The American ambassador to France was dining just upstairs the night I was there, so you know this place is something special.
Verjus is separated into three spaced: the downstairs no-reservations Bar A Vin, the main dining room above it, and a 3rd floor space for private dining. The menu is a fusion of french, italian with some asian-inspired hints sprinkled throughout the dishes. For example, the pickled carrots in the pumpkin-stuffed capellettis shown below:
We also sampled the buttermilk fried chicken, duck meat balls, and burrata paired with a crisp white wine. However, perhaps the best part of the evening was getting to know the restaurant’s wonderful co-owner Laura, who 8 years ago sold all her belonging, moved to Paris from Minnesota and shortly thereafter opened a restaurant that I personally cannot get enough of. This is one inspirational story I will not forget!
So, next time you find yourself in Paris head to Verjus and cozy up with a friend for some mouth-watering haute cuisine at the restaurant’s unassuming, rustic bar a vin.
